Anyone wishing to experience the real world of the Vikings must have Odin's permission to travel from the world of Asgard to the land of Midgard. A Valkyrie messenger, Brynhild, and Goddess Freya have been given permission for mortals to cross the rainbow bridge and see for themselves a land of seafaring warriors.
With the protection of Thor's lucky hammer, we enter a busy trading village and see other countries exchanging goods. King Eric Bloodaxe announces that everyone must assemble at the 'Thing', where important issues need to be discussed. A jury must decide how to settle a difficult dispute.
A proposed raiding party is assembled to gather new booty and a boat is prepared for their hazardous journey. During their absence, entertainment and a feast are arranged for their return.
Lastly, no Viking voyage would be complete until all are sat around the fire listening to one of the great stories of brave and fearless warriors performing heroic deeds.
During this workshop the children are involved with the following activities, decorating brooches, shields and chess pieces. They are smoking and drying fish, some are weaving and others preparing animal skins. They have to make a long boat and rehearse and act out a Viking legend. They also prepare a feast and learn a Viking dance.
Mrs Webber (The Greville)
A well planned and exciting experience for the children, lots of hands on involvement.
